President Ghani's Special Envoy Umer Daudzai met Siraj Haq, head of Jamaat-e-Islami party, on Thursday during his four-day visit to Pakistan, the High Peace Council said in a statement on Friday.
 
During the meeting, the two sides discussed key and practical issues for achieving peace in Afghanistan.

According to the statement, during the meeting Daudzai asked Siraj Haq to cooperate for the start of direct talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban. 

The Pakistani religious leader vowed to cooperate with the Afghan peace process, the statement said.
 
Daudzai is in a four-day visit to Islamabad to hold talks with Pakistani officials as well as political and religious leaders to discuss the Afghan peace. 

Daudzai met with Pakistan Foreign Minister on January 8 where they two sides discussed the Afghan peace process and strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries. 

Meanwhile, on Thursday President Ghani's Special Envoy met with Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, chairman of Qaumi Watan Party, where they discussed the Afghan peace process. 

The two sides stressed the need for cooperation on peace between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the HPC said in a statement. 

Daudzai also met Asfandyar Wali Khan, head of Awami National Party, where they discussed the Afghan peace process, regional situation and Pakistan's role in the peace process.


Daudzai met with Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman regarding Afghan peace efforts

Mohammad Umer Daudzai, the Secretariat Chief of the Afghan High Peace Council and Senior Presidential Envoy for Regional Consensus for Reconciliation met with Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman, the President of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal.

The Afghan High Peace Council in a statement said Mr. Daudzai emphasized on the importance of the support of Pakistani Ulemas for the revival negotiations between the Afghan government and Taliban group.

He also briefed Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman regarding the peace process in Afghanistan and urged to take practical steps and play a constructive role in this regard.

The statement further added that the Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman welcomed the progress in Afghan peace and promised to take steps to bring peace in Afghanistan, calling it important for the people of both countries.

The two sides also discussed the prospect regarding a joint conference of the Afghan and Pakistani Ulemas, the statement added.

The Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Atif Mashal had also participated in the meeting along with the delegation of High Peace Council.
